Slayden slugs his way to Home Run Derby victory
Jeremy Slayden was the overall winner of the Home Run Derby this past Friday night in Daytona.
He was very patient at the plate, and as luck would have it, his two home runs in Round One were enough to advance to the next round. I believe that I was enjoying a snow cone and the Riverwalk at Jackie Robinson Ballpark during Round Two, so I missed most of his eight home runs there. I did make it back up into the stands for the Championship Round. Slayden's opponent went first and hit two late home runs. Slayden got the three he needed to win the challenge, and then stayed around to hit two more to cap off the night.
While at breakfast at a nice diner on Atlantic Avenue Saturday morning, I read this article by Sean Kernan about Slayden and the Home Run Derby in the Daytona Beach News-Journal. Check it out.
Updated at 12:30pm: Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com had this story with some more great quotes from Slayden.
Updated at 2:00pm: Don't miss Mayo's video interview of Slayden linked in the story above.

Made the trip extra nice to see one of our guys win the HR derby. Bid on all five jerseys in the silent auction, but only won Carrasco. Hard to keep up with five sheets in a crowded area as the last second silent auction madness ensued.
Did you notice which jersey made the most $?
For the Threshers Slayden and Golson both went for $155 each. Picked up Carrasco for just $120 which I thought was a bargain.
Overall Maybin was the highest. Not sure of the final bid, but it was in the $275 range last I saw.
I had a feeling that Maybin was going to be the biggest draw. I'm suprised that Carrasco's didn't go for more. Do you remember how much Marson's went for?
