First Round Choice Signs

"Shortstop Anthony Hewitt, the Phillies’ first-round selection last month, has agreed to terms and will report to Clearwater, Fla., later this week, Director of Scouting Marti Wolever announced today.

Hewitt, 19, received a bonus of $1,380,000 plus eight semesters under a college scholarship program.

The Phillies have signed 27 of the 53 players they selected, including the first five."
