Joe Savery scheduled to start Tuesday against FSU

It appears that Joe Savery will get the honor of throwing the first pitch of the Phillies 2008 Spring Training season when he takes the mound against Florida State University on Tuesday, February 26 at 7:05pm.

Savery played for the Williamsport Crosscutters in the NY-Penn League after being drafted in the first round out of Rice.

Where do you think Savery will start the 2008 season?

FSU set to return to Bright House Networks Field on February 26

Florida State University's baseball team will be returning to Bright House Networks Field on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. They will face the Philadelphia Phillies in an exhibition contest.

The news release from FSU which includes quotes from Seminoles head coach Mike Martin can be found here.

The 2007 exhibition game saw nearly 5,000 fans in the stands at Bright House Networks Field, many clad in FSU's colors of garnet and gold. The Seminoles enjoyed a 1-0 lead as Tony Thomas led off the game with a home run. The lead was short-lived as the Phillies scored four in their half of the first inning en route to a 12-4 Phillies win.

Former Threshers in the exhibition game included Chris Roberson who was hitless in just one at-bat. Additionally, pitchers Alfredo Simon and Joe Bisenius combined to give up just one run, and two hits, while striking out three in three innings.

Got a chance to catch up with former Thresher Ryan Barthelemy last night

Ryan and Lisa Barthelemy were at the ballgame yesterday between the Phillies and Florida State University. Ryan starred for the Seminoles in the early part of the decade.

It's been awhile since I've seen them at the ballpark, but it was nice catching up with them. I don't recall where they are living these days, but Ryan has retired from baseball and working in the private sector. Ryan spent last season with the Palm Beach Cardinals after four seasons in the Phillies organization.
